Czech Government Moves to Tighten Temporary-Protection Rules for Ukrainian Refugees

Prague has approved a sweeping amendment that will make Ukrainian temporary-protection holders prove they live in Czechia at least 16 days a month, link humanitarian aid to gainful activity, and revoke status after a 30-day absence from Schengen. Employers will have to police cross-border travel and ensure compliance, while refugees face stricter car-inspection and document rules. The bill still needs parliamentary approval but is expected to take effect on 1 January 2027.
